Memory exhibition
31/03/2006
VISITORS will enjoy taking a trip down memory lane at an exhibition featuring the work of Ceramics students from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).
Second year BA Ceramics students from UWIC’s Cardiff School of Art and Design, will present an exhibition on the theme of Memory later this month at Craft in the Bay, Cardiff Bay.
The free exhibition, which showcases the work of students who have transformed the simple material of clay into beautiful, thought-provoking pieces, will be open to the public from April 28 until May 13, from 10.30am until 5.30pm daily.
The ceramicists of the future are very excited at the prospect of having their work exhibited at such an early stage in their career, and are keen to show off their talent and creativity.
Student Erin Jones, who is originally from New Zealand, said: "Craft in the Bay have offered us an exciting platform to present our collective responses to the Memory Project.
“For most this is our first chance to exhibit our work in a public gallery. An exhibition at this intermediate stage in the degree is a valuable opportunity.
“The public will have an insight into the incredible creative diversity a ceramics degree can offer"
Ron Adam, Project Manager at Craft in the Bay, said: “We are absolutely delighted to host an exhibition by students of UWIC, as it gives them the opportunity to display their work to the general public in a professional gallery, which will give them experience of the world outside university.”
Ceramics programme director Delyth Done added: “This exhibition demonstrates the breadth of clay–based art practice which is encouraged within our programme.
“These are the Ceramic artists of tomorrow. They display enormous potential and continue to surprise us with their innovative, imaginative and successful work in clay.”
