UWIC students hand-picked for Danish ceramics convention

September 2006

TWO top ceramics students from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) have been hand-picked to represent the UK at an international ceramics convention in Denmark.

Second year students Rosanna Martin and Helen Pickles will travel next week to the "European Ceramic Context 2006" Festival on the Danish island of Bornholm. The event consists of three exhibitions showing contemporary ceramics, two workshops and a conference.

Rosanna and Helen will join 48 other students representing 25 EU-member countries in the ten-day workshop entitled 'Deconstructing the past - building the future' which is linked to both Bornholm's old ceramics factory 'Hjorth's Factory Bornholm - Museum of Ceramics' and the Kunst Museum.

Programme Leader, Delyth Done, said: "They are both very strong students who have excelled in Ceramics. They are committed, enthusiastic and will make great ambassadors for the UK. This opportunity is unique as they will have the opportunity to meet ceramists from all over Europe."
