“If anyone is in Christ, his is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things have become new”.
2 Corinthians, chapter 5, verse 17, The Holy Bible, New King James
Version
I deal with this issue of change in my work, alluding to the notion
of a transformation. I use the human hand as it carries connotations
of both universal and personal identity. Out identities are
formed through our interests and perceptions, which in turn become
a part of our identity. I use objects that relate to and represent
aspects of my life that are a part of my old self. Increasingly
the objects are lost, whilst the hands purity and clarity becomes
more apparent, representing this notion of a new creation. I
use an ornate gold frame as a tool to unify each series of work and
as a vehicle to suggest the brokenness of such emphasis evident in
much church life today. Essentially my aim is to present Christianity
as a very real change that takes place in a person’s life
in stark contrast perhaps to the general publics perception of
religion. |
