Casper David Freidrich (1830) My work uses traces, which mark the existence or passing
of my experiences. These traces follow the course or position
of my feelings as I experience or remember them, in the same way
as a finger leaves a trace when pressure is exerted. Whether
it is visible to the eye or not it is there and will remain.
I aim to express this through the thrown vessel form. I
explore surface decoration through a relief and colour. My
source material is derived from home landscape, the colours and
textures of flora and fauna within it.
I am exploring two bodies of work, the first using bold coloured
reduction glazes suggesting the farmed landscape. The second
using celadon glazes to enhance the spiral, thus suggesting a calm
reflective environment.
I am keen for the viewer to experience the pots tactile qualities. I
use the spiral, which expresses a feeling of vastness and persistence,
a continuum that can be illusive, fragile and precious. |
