Katy JellyThe inspiration for my work came from the natural sources of lilies and its leaves, this illustrated a correlation between the linear qualities of the lily and the process of making I use in my work, the linear concept became an integral part of my composition.  Through my progression of making I developed a vocabulary which dealt with the layering of different lines to make a really unusual texture.  The quality of texture on my pieces comes from using slip in many different ways to give diverse styles of lines. This approach has suggested other qualities in my pieces, the skeletal ideals from slip trailing have now become about the body and form of a piece giving a contrast between the strongness of the clay and fragility of the slip, not dissimilar to the ideals of a lily or leaf which looks strong but is also very delicate.  My pieces are textured sculptural forms which give a suggestion of the vessel and of containment, using the form of the lily as inspiration.
