Humankind has an incredible ability to heal, both physically and emotionally. Such events leave traces of memories that speak of the past. It is the experiences that we have in life, both good and bad, that form our identities and the ability to survive that adds to the beauty of our character. Our memories are often fragmented and I attempt to suggest this through the fragmentation in my work. I use various textures and colours to evoke feelings of the past suggesting delicacy and sensitivity to change. I have selected to use a body cast of my torso as it evokes feelings of identity and humanity. A woman’s chest, in particular, is an area of privacy and intimacy. To reveal such an area is to show an often hidden and protected part of self. |
