Kelly RyderNew Fruit

I have been animated by the work of Magdalene Odundo, whose organic, smooth and simple vessels inspire exploratory forms and possibilities. They capture the bulbous, round bottomed and extreme simplicity that i feel i have aspired to. My search for a colourful and natural influence was found in tropical fruit, the thrust and inspiration of my work is this, but not a literal depiction.

An Aim of my work was to produce a new species of fruit that has a connection to the vessel but not overriding its importance.

I have been dealing with playful abstract forms that are bulbous and organic, how they stand is a major part of their playful quality. My stimulus for colour comes from various different types of tropical fruits, both bright and bold that have helped me to accomplish my final glazes.

My Glazes relate to the vessels in a 'fruity' way, they are colours that are juicy, shinny and runny. The glazing process and outcome has been a key element when helping to achieve characteristics that are eye catching for the commercial audience.

Aesthetically pleasing is a quality that best describes my creative intentions, as i am primarily dealing with my love of coil building and vibrant colour within my work.
