Contradicting the notion of function my vessels are purely a vehicle to express the abstract in terms of both surface and it's echoed form.
Music acts as a catalyst in providing a vocabulary of sounds and rhythms, which are translated through the medium of drawing, in turn creating a dynamic interplay between shape, colour, space, movement and rhythm and thus displaying certain characteristics.
The combination of brushwork and mono printing allows layers of coloured slips to build up contrasting surface areas of minimal and chaotic.
The wide edge of the slab creates an `end` for the abstract surface much in the same was as the edge of a canvas; giving a perimeter or boundary between the inner and outer where necessary. The use of block colouring is suitable for many reasons; to add depth and volume to an interior, to heighten colours and shapes within the abstract surface, and also to combine inner and outer spatial elements when appropriate. |
