My sculptural compositions focus on the relationship between two forms within a specific space. In each composition a different level of engagement exists between the forms and different relationships are formed; sometimes there is tension, other times harmony. The compositions run in a sequence of three which allows the viewer to follow the movement of the forms and their different positions from one composition to the next.
Simplicity of form is important and two different relationships exist within the compositions, one between two spheres and the other between a sphere and a hemisphere. The two spheres differ in size but reflect each other in shape while the hemisphere and sphere are from a related family of form and therefore echo each others shape.
The backdrop placed behind the forms introduces another dialogue into the compositions and sets up a relationship with the forms. Depending on how the backdrop is divided effects how the forms are viewed. Colour plays an important role and is used to highlight certain elements of the compositions and to identify each sequence.
My sculptural compositions could be seen in a domestic setting or if their scale was enlarged they could be seen as public sculpture in an urban or rural environment. |
