The circular form is a symbol of completeness, suggesting moments of contentment in my life. The variation in the scale allows for a drift from different moments and times, and the space created around the forms are maybe suggesting the transition or breaking away from the calm contentment. Its shallowness provokes you to look inside...
I have developed a paper-thin quality for the cylindrical volume with my emphasis being on the process, actually making something myself, the material passing through my hands, evoking ambience, silence and serenity. Repetition is part of the process, making something so much that it becomes comfortable to me, which helps me to arrive at a point where I feel it necessary to introduce something new... I feel that my work starts to come to life when it is multiplied.
I took a form and by creating several similar forms I began to discover that I was making more and more, enabling myself to progress in my making ability. It became clear to me that my 'final piece' would naturally find itself, not only would it be down to my thinking and ideas but to the material qualities and technical aspects involved. I began to understand this as I became more familiar with the form. I feel repetition was an important part of my development process.

I feel that my work is now evoking sensitivity with its fragility and torn-like edge. I feel that the cream glaze that I have used has enhanced the sensitivity of the porcelain form adding to it a cool and calm quality.
The use of staples and sliver plated wire have added to the sensitivity of the form evoking a more obvious sense of disruption, also enabling me to exploit a particular area within the form. The beautiful bleeding qualities from the metal additions show the relationship |
