Verena Gaudy"Much that is manufactured today feeds a kind of physical or mental addiction, brought on by a stimulus that is initially satisfying, but which requires frequent replenishment - be it fast food, recorded music or rapid travel. We are so afraid of boredom that we will often fail to take time to look nature in the face and discover ourselves." Alan Powers

These ceramic objects reflect thoughts on two major concerns:

  • The changes in our society and humankind

  • The consequences of these changes on the environment

The phrase of time can describe the following:

  • Humankinds present, past and future

  • Our hurried societies

  • The speed of destruction of nature

Relating the word "time" to ceramic processes I remembered a certain phrase entering my mind, when coiling or hand building: "I have got time on my hands". With this working manner I consciously oppose the machine made, mass produced item, creating personal and individual objects.

The clay bodies reflect no distinctive subject matter or influence to allow the viewer his/her own interpretation, making a unique interaction with the ceramic pieces possible.
